What’s Up With “Mind Body Soul” “Healing Touch” I See Everywhere
Let’s get down to it. We can’t trust everything we read. Shocker, I know. The internet has given rise to amazing potential in the information we can share and receive. Then, there is the fluff. The silly, feel good, fancy worded information with the intention to evoke emotional responses to get us to buy something. And it works! The marketing, I mean. With massage, there’s not much to say, except filler words to explain what needs to be felt. “Mind body connection” “transformative power of massage” “Rejuvenate your life” it’s all filler words to make you feel something.
Massage needs to be felt, by you, to be explained. Massage is and has been an aspect of caring for aches and pains from the beginning. It’s instinctual, to suffer some tension and find relief from pressing in on that area. We’ve all done it. Remember that headache? You pressed your fingers into your temples and found momentary relief from the pain.
Pressure stimulates nerve receptors and triggers the release of acetylcholine to stimulate endorphins. Applied pressure, for 15 second of more, changes our brains perception of pain. Massage is not just releasing muscular tension. It is affecting how our brain reacts and processes physical stimulation.
My mom used to stroke her fingers through my hair when I had headaches. I thought it just felt nice. Now, I know that it is not only the touch of my mom that has the power to heal. You can absolutely understand how good massage can feel by having a back rub from your loved one. From having your hair washed at the hair salon.

A massage session takes you away from your chaotic life. It is time away from your work life, your home life, your schooling, your anxiety, stress and pain. At Massage Solutions, I have created a safe place where we (you and I) find solutions to help you heal yourself.
And it is you healing yourself. Massage offers a trained touch that calms your nervous system, reduces pain and stress symptoms, to allow your body to heal. I am not healing you, I am a guide and an assistant on your journey. As always, this means you are in control of the work you receive.
Ideally, in the beginning of your journey, I recommended weekly or every other week. More frequent, closer together sessions, gives your body time to attune to the changes. Time for you to be focused on any changes you notice or any ideas of goals/progression that you want to achieve.
In the maintenance stage (a 60 or 90 minute massage every 3-4 weeks), we are working under the idea that you are incorporating healthy methods of prolonging massage goals and benefits. Movement, stretching, exercise and just being aware of your body and how you use it. I can only make suggestions to guide you in this self-discovery of how you can feel better in your own body.
You aren’t expected to get massages for the rest of your life. But why wouldn’t you want them?
