What Type of Massage Do I Need?

There are numerous massage techniques, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits. These are modalities offered here at Massage Solutions, the techniques Samantha has been trained in and can offer to clients.

Swedish Massage:

  • Purpose: Swedish massage is one of the most popular massage modalities and is known for its gentle, flowing strokes. It aims to promote relaxation, improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and enhance overall well-being.

    Deep Tissue Massage:

  • Purpose: Deep tissue massage targets deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue to address chronic tension, muscle adhesions, and areas of pain or stiffness. It involves slow, firm pressure and can help alleviate chronic muscle pain and improve range of motion. The name can be deceiving, because a deep tissue massage does not require deep tissue. It is the slow application of pressure and movement that promotes a deeper tissue sensation.

    Sports Massage:

  • Purpose: Sports massage is tailored to athletes and active individuals to help prevent injuries, promote recovery, and enhance athletic performance. It combines various techniques such as stretching, compression, and friction to address specific muscle groups and support optimal function.

    Trigger Point Therapy/Neuromuscular Therapy:

  • Purpose: Trigger point therapy focuses on releasing trigger points, which are areas of muscle tightness and hypersensitivity that can refer pain to other parts of the body. This technique involves applying sustained pressure to these points to alleviate pain and restore muscle function. Not all therapists that utilize trigger point therapy are certified and trained in neuromuscular therapy, but I am.

    Myofascial Release:

  • Purpose: Myofascial release targets the fascia, a connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and organs. It aims to release restrictions in the fascia, improve mobility, and reduce pain and tension. Techniques may include sustained pressure, stretching, and gentle traction.

    Prenatal Massage:

  • Purpose: Prenatal massage is tailored to the needs of pregnant individuals and focuses on relieving discomfort associated with pregnancy, such as back pain, swelling, and fatigue. It involves utilizing a side lying position, to avoid pressure on the abdomen. It promotes relaxation and reduces stress.

    Myofascial Cupping Therapy:

  • Purpose: Myofascial cupping is a technique that involves the use of silicone cups placed on the skin to create suction and lift the underlying fascia and muscle tissue. This gentle pulling action helps release adhesions, alleviate pain, reduce muscle tension, and improve overall mobility. During the treatment, the cups are typically left in place for a few minutes or moved across the skin in a gliding motion to target specific areas of tension or restriction.

These are examples of the many massage techniques available at Massage Solutions, each offering unique benefits for promoting relaxation, relieving tension, reducing pain, and supporting overall health and well-being. My custom sessions generally involve a mixture of the above techniques but can become more targeted upon the feedback and direction indicated by my client. It's essential to communicate with your massage therapist about your specific needs and preferences to ensure that the treatment is tailored to your individual goals and concerns.
